Being part of the solution is in your hands
Saying ‘no’ to plastic drinking bottles is not just about preventing yet more plastic from ending up in the ocean. It’s a statement, a call to action – a tiny, but meaningful response to a global crisis. Every minute, the equivalent to a full garbage truck gets dumped in the ocean. According to one estimate, by 2025 the world’s oceans could contain one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish.
The ocean is literally filling up with plastic, and bottled drinks are one of the biggest culprits. It’s time to take action. At ocean52, plastic is not an option. Our drinks are bottled in glass and aluminium cans.
Glass: Before plastic bottles, we had glass… and perhaps we should have kept it that way. Glass is 100% recyclable, meaning it can be recycled endlessly without loss in quality or creation of waste by-products. Best of all, glass is non-porous and impermeable, so (unlike plastic) there are no nasty-tasting interactions between the glass and the drink.
Cans: Durable, lightweight and 100% recyclable, by virtually every measure Aluminium cans are the most sustainable beverage package. Cheap to ship and produce, because it takes just 8 percent of the energy to produce aluminum from recycled material versus producing new aluminum, cans are by far the most recycled product in the world.
If you still need more reasons for cutting plastic bottles out of your life, consider this:
75% of plastic bottles never get recycled,
they are burned, thrown into landfills… or into the ocean.
There is mounting evidence that plastic bottles
present a health risk due to chemical leaching.
Besides taking 500+ years to biodegrade,
ocean plastic slowly breaks down into smaller ‘microplastics’
that aquatic life and birds can mistake for food.
Single-use plastic is a terribly destructive human addiction.
Don’t you want to break the habit?
